23 February 2017- 9 March 2017- Thursdays 13:30-15:30
This watercolour course will be looking at how to capture your chosen subject through washes and layers. This technique allows the students to have a little more control over the watercolour rather than wet on wet technique. Inspiration will be taken from Georgia O’Keefe and Cezanne. Suitable for all abilities, no content will be repeated from previous courses.
Charcoal, Chalk and Graphite
16 March 2017- 6 April 2017- Thursdays 13:30-15:30
Claire will share her enthusiasm for these three different mediums, each week demonstrating how to use each material and how diverse it can be! We will be exploring from graphite powder, textured papers to coloured chalk pastels. Suitable for all abilities, no content will be repeated from previous courses.
20 April 2017- 25 May 2017- Thursdays 13:00-16:00
This 6 week course will explore the human form in depth from how to capture movement to the structure and proportion of hands and feet. Claire will also cover proportion, texture and tone as well as creating skin tone in paint. For all abilities.
8-29 June 2017- Thursdays 13:30-15:30
This 4 week course will explore tone and how to translate tones into a colour drawing. Claire will look at the five tones as described by Leonardo da Vinci and how to find them in your subject; specifically looking at the subtleties and variety of tones available to us. For all abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Summer Workshops 2017
Exploring Chalk Pastels
Thursday 6 July 2017- 13:00-16:00
This workshop will explore pastels, using colour and achieving detail in what is normally considered a smudgy medium. Inspiration will be taken from the Masters and contemporary artists and how they each have a different approach and use for pastels. Students will be able to choose the subject to work from. All abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Ink and Dipping Pen
Thursday 13 July 2017-13:00-16:00
Claire will share her experience and enthusiasm for pen and ink and will introduce students to the different nibs and how to use them to create textures. Claire will show how to use coloured inks in layers to create depth of colour. All abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Drawing Loosening Up
Thursday 20 July 2017 - 13:00-16:00
Claire will provide a fun and relaxed environment where students can experiment and learn simple techniques that help loosen up their drawing technique; thus enabling expression whilst still capturing the subject. Students will be able to choose the subject which they wish to draw. All abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Painting with a Palette Knife
Thursday 27 July 2017 - 13:00-16:00
Claire will show students how to paint impasto with a palette knife and build up a variety of textures and colours. Claire will explain how to use the variety of different knives and how to achieve detail. Inspiration will be taken from contemporary artists using the technique. All abilities. Thursday 17 August 2017 - 13:00-16:00
Claire will demonstrate how to grind your inks and hold your brush in various ways to create different gestural marks; enabling students to capture their chosen subject with a variety of brushstrokes. All abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Thursday 24 August 2017 - 13:00-16:00
Claire will share her vast experience of capturing the natural world to create vibrant paintings that are achieved through acute observational skills, imagination and expression. Students can choose their subject and either acrylic or oil. All abilities. No content will be repeated from previous courses.
Colour Mixing and Theory
Thursday 31 August 2017 - 13:00-16:00
This popular workshop returns - Claire will explain the colour wheel in depth and demonstrate how to mix colours – and remember how to remake the exact same shade once it has run out!! Inspiration will be taken from Matisse on how to use different colours together effectively. For all abilities.
